" went to a well known scooby tuner today and had a 4wd RR on the IAM 8 map I previously posted - the result 276bhp @6714 & 252 ftlbs (ambient was 7C) - he was very impressed as was I. As part of the RR he checked air/fuel ratio, timing and knock as he took the car from 1000 rpm to 7000 rpm in 4th gear (approx 130mph), his conclusion - this was a great piece of mapping, AFR was spot on for low & high speed engine load at 10.05 (checked with wideband) and no knock, torque comes in very early and across a wide range of the engine speed tailing off (as it shoud do!) at higher revs - so more useable than some maps that peak, also the amount of bhp was extremely good without having excessive boost to create it which stresses engine components - not bad for a WRX with all CATS in place !.
He suggested replacing the up & down pipe which should yield another 15-20 bhp & ftlbs - and help spool up/ response, keep the 3rd CAT in place for MOT purposes as it's reasonably free flowing & should not impact performance, also look at the fueling & timing to yield more torque.
What I like the most is simply, it cost sod all, has really put a spark in the car, has been verified by a very experienced EcuTek mapper as being spot on and gives me 30+ mpg on a run at motorway crusing speeds.
Finally, he was so curious he connected his laptop to the car to see what had been done and asked for a copy of the map - can't get any better than that ."
