17x8 rims for STI 2006 allowed for use in Grmany

Dear community,

I was trying to search the forum here to understand how does it work in Germany to buy and legally use wheels other than stock. I must say it's tricky and I didn't get it yet.
The question is: are there any wheels in 17x8 that fit STI06, which I can put on the car without going to TUV or registering it in any other place?
Or, if I put any wheel other than stock, I must automatically go to some legal department to register it?

And the second, how does it work for 18x8, are there other difficulties as compared to 17x8?

Thanks a lot in advance,
Sergey

Hi Sergey,

In Germany its pretty simple:

Whatever you change from Stock setup, needs to have either:

# an ABE (paper which certifies the security and usage of the part)

# a TUEV report which proves security and usage, so that the TUEV can put it into your documents

# a single type approval by TUEV.

This is valid for exhaust, brakes, wheels, window foils etc...

So, if you want 17x8 wheels on STI06, you purchase some that either have a TUEV report so you can have them listed in your documents by TUEV, or you purchase some that have the correct wheel load and strength, and you find a TUEV guy who lists it in your docs (single type approval)...

Any questions, just post here...

Regards,

Jan

Hey Jan,

Thanks for your answer. Still not clear why one has to register the wheels in the same dimension as stock. Do the TUEV guys put the exact name of the aftermarket wheel with full dimension description to your papers?

Anyway, based on what you said, if I want to by a wheel, I need one of three following documents provided from the seller, right? And with this doc in any case I MUST go to the TUEV to get their approval, right?

Then again the question is, does anybody know a dealer who provides 17x8" wheels, which fit 06STI, with this ABE or TUEV report. I'm asking cause I didn't find any yet. Or this ABE or TUEV one must find separately (not at the dealer who sells you wheels)

THanks,
Sergey

Hi Sergey,

Even though dimensions are same, the manufacturer is usually different, so wheels other than stock are not included in the COC (certificate of conformity).

This indeed means, in any case you would have to see the TUEV if you want them street-legal...

For wheels that fit the STI06, you may either ask your local dealer (Subaru Germany offers different wheels for the STI06 as accessories).

Furthermore, the easiest way would be to pick a wheel/ design and then ask here in the Forum again. Usually people will find the proper wheel plus the dealer who sells it for you very quickly...

PS: Since you are from Dortmund, why not try our recommended dealer in Duisburg, Autohaus Wingenter? Mark Wingenter or one of his team is surely able to help you.

Best,

Jan
