Noice from Wheels

Hi,
My car, STI -2003 16000km, not completely stock,

I have a strange noice from my wheels/brakes that I made my local dealer have a look at, he claims that the wheels are not completely round.

Now I do not think this is the problem, do any of you guys experienced any noice from the wheels/brakes?

Could it be the bearings that has gone?

Hello Loscooby

what kind of noice is it? How would you describe it? Could it be, that your wheel-bearings are over the hill? Are you sometimes enyoing the racetrack?

I have no idea. But there are many who had too change the STi-bearings.

Can you hear the noice all the time, or is it only while breaking?

Im shure somebody in this forum can help you!

greetings from Switzerland

Thanks for helping me out!

Well the noice is kind of in the background and it is always in the background sometimes less and sometimes more, I never use the car on the race-track because it is my daily driver. I think I am actually very nice to the car :-)
Infact the noice is very noticable if i but the gear into neutral and let the car slow down from 120Km/h to 40 it is there all the way.

I can not feel anything unusual in the steering-wheel or anything not even under heavy braking.

Does anybody know of a good Subaru-dealer or any other garage in the München-area that can trouble-shoot and not just say that it is the wheels that are uneven?

It sounds like the bearing! I had the same problem on my 98 WRX just a short time ago. I don`t think the brakes are the problem however if the brake pad or the brake disc is too thin it could also be the brakes. But I guess yours are still all right as your car is quite new.

I just recently had to change the bearings on my wagon too. I noticed that turning to right, there was this chattering noice coming from my right wheel. Turning left, the noice was gone until I turned again to the right side. brake capacity was not affected at all.
Running (extreme) negative camber can easyly damage the bearings.
