Hier noch ein Augenzeugenbericht zum Unfall auf der NS!
I was taking two ring-newbies out for their 3rd (?) lap, Rob on Hedgeabuser and Spence on an R1. As Spence seemed to be happy going "faster than slow" through Hatzenbach I decided that I'd open up a bit to Quiddelbacher-Hoche, and all was well...
... Going around Flugplatz looking over the SX crest I saw huge-black clouds rising, and my thoughts was that there's either a local-golf that's over cooked it and has stopped safely on the side using the fire extinguisher on the car and all is fine, my other thought that it's a very morbid place to burn your rubbish/leaves on....
... Coming over the crest the smoke got worse and worse, and there it was - a ball of flames How I managed to stop I don't know. Ripped my lid off, screamed at Spence to walk up the road to slow down traffic. He leaves, I ring the office; "Ferrari 360 am SX am feuer...". The Zakspeed Viper is stopping and is running over with a fire extinguisher the size of a 1l coke bottle - the view was unexplainable.
I was thinking that if I put the lid on I could crawl closes to the car and maybe get into it having my leathers protect me, but as the car kept on giving away small bangs and whooshes, and it had already taken probably 3 minutes I knew that without a doubt I could not get anyone out...
For all of you who are reading this - experienced or not - One moment you're a person who can laugh, have a beer, talk dirty, make someone feel like the top of the world - and on another moment, you might not be that.
It is not worth going for that little extra is it? Next time, it could be you - please, don't be an idiot[1] near me - there's enough **** going on as it is.
What I can suss out from the tracks etc was that the Ferrari came over the crest, got airborn and just flipped like an F1 car does if it loses the wings. Landed upside down, and petrol pouring out caught fire immediately. If the people in the car would have been concious I doubt they could have crawled out of the car - the roof was not crushed, but it was compressed a bit.
My condoleances to friends and family.
/Jocke
[1] I'm not saying anyone in the car was an idiot, I'm just saying don't be one. OK?
